We are looking to fill:

  • Part-Time Summer Camp Counselor Positions for dates 6/15/26 - 8/21/26

Job description

Rhode Island Surf Co. is looking for 1 to 2 counselors to assist in leading a summer camp for the 2026 season. Co-Counselors will report to the Camp Manager. This is a seasonal position; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday(Fridays if weather impacts a core session day). The camp is offered to ages 6-13, and runs from June 22 - August 20, 2026.  Counselors will work both am and pm sessions in a week, this is 9am-12pm(morning) and 1pm-4pm(afternoon) with a break for lunch between sessions. There are two full day week long sessions offered, 9am-3pm, July 13 - July 16 and July 20 - 23. Expected shift time will be set up at 8:30am and break-down at 3:30pm, or 4:30pm for half-day sessions. The Camp Manager is responsible for coordinating with Co-Counselors in following a provided “curriculum” to ensure an exciting, fun and safe experience.

Requirements

  1. Must be 18 years or older
  2. Strong communication skills, good judgment, and a consistently positive attitude
  3. Ability to follow a structured curriculum and take direction
  4. Comfortable working outdoors and in the ocean environment
  5. Passion for working with children ages 7–13

Certifications (or willingness to obtain):

  1. CPR/AED & First Aid (we can help organize certification)
  2. Strong swimming ability required
  3. Surf Lifeguard Certification (preferred; cost may be reimbursed after full season completion)

Screening Requirement:

  1. All hires must pass a background check prior to employment (Rhode Island Surf Co. will assist in facilitating this process)

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to lead
  2. Deliver engaging, safe, and educational camp activities
  3. Supervise campers in and around the water at all times
  4. Set up and break down daily camp equipment
  5. Monitor weather and prioritize safety at all times
  6. Ensure campers are hydrated, supported, and having fun
  7. Maintain clear communication with campers, staff, and parents
  8. Manage check-in and check-out procedures
  9. Ensure all required camper forms are completed
  10. Model strong beach safety and ocean stewardship
  11. Be aware of key safety locations (lifeguards, first aid, bathrooms, etc.)
  12. Work collaboratively with staff and adapt to changing conditions
  13. Support team needs, including schedule/weather adjustments

    Physical Requirements

    This role is active and outdoors:

    1. Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands/arms
    2. Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs
    3. Significant time spent in and around the water
    4. Ability to work in varying summer weather conditions

    Counselors should model confident, safe, and responsible behavior in all beach and ocean settings.

    Adventure Camp Mission:

    This is an enrichment program, made for, and by people who love the ocean! The mission is to provide campers with exciting educational experiences; to teach practical water safety skills, and knowledge about our local beaches and the marine life. Each camper will become an ocean steward, they will gain confidence and build a stronger beach-goer community!
